1/19 Researching Nathan GOODSTAT & his wife Rebecca SMITH who had a daughter Leah Rebecca GOODSTAT born 1913 England. Nathan died & was buried in Lithgow in 1962. Buried with him in 1969 is a Leah R WILSON. A Rebecca Leah GOODSTAT married a Henry WILSON in 1968. Was this the mother or the daughter? If the mother was buried in 1969 what happened to the daughter Leah who had previously married a Michell PERIPICHI in 1933 & divorced in 1942?

2/19 Contact is sought with the descendants of Genevieve (Molly) GILMOUR & James William LEWIS who married in 1930 & had 2 children: 1.Geoffrey James LEWIS who married Bette TAYLOR & had sons Darryl & Gary & 2. Lesley who married Robert John BARKER & had children Daryl, Bronwyn, Sheena & Robyn. The BARKERs lived in Maddox Lane Lidsdale until the 1980s when they moved to Bathurst. Geoffrey & Bette LEWIS lived at Green Valley in Sydney. Molly & James LEWIS lived at 38 Hill St Lithgow.


1/18 Seeking the correct parents & date of birth of Henry Charles BAKER. His marriage certificate states that he was born at Yass son of Henry Baker, boundary rider, and Harriet. His headstone states that he was born at Yass on 20 Feb 1861. It has been suggested that his mother was Mary or Julia SAUNDERS, daughter of convict Lampit SAUNDERS & an unnamed aborigine, and born in 1842 at Wee Waa. Mary (Julia) later partnered William ROBERTSON or ROBINSON who was born on the island of St Thomas in the Virgin Islands of the Caribbean or Jamaica. Henry BAKER married Agnes WOODWARD in 1883 at Coonabarabran. They lived on 'Garrawilla Station' at Mullaley via Gunnedah where Henry was a boundary rider.

3/18 Hugh MCGRATH b1857 Yass marr Sarah WELDON 1878 Gunning. Their chn: Veronica, Georgina, Oliver, Ada, James. Hugh married 2. Ada WHITELY 1907 Oberon & had dtr Clare who married James SLATTERY & had ?2 sons-one was Robert John SLATTERY, who was the other? Also seeking information about Hugh MCGRATH's shops in Williwa St Portland & Kandos. 

4/18 Tom WADE & his wife Margaret PINNINGTON married & had children in New Zealand. Tom, with Thomas COOK, Isaac ?PISK & T BELL, came to Lithgow c1892 under contract to William SANDFORD to erect the first sheet-mill & to work the mills for 12 months. Tom & Margaret had more children in Lithgow & initially lived in Roy St. Tom then ran a shop on the corner of Tank & Inch Sts but left in 1914 to run a shop at 629 King St Newtown. Was Tom related to other WADEs in Lithgow?


5/18 George Gray FRENCH bap1833 Gloucestershire married 1857 Penrith Phoebe DOWSWELL (b1841 dtr of Thomas DOWSWELL & Mary BRINKWORTH). George & his father John, a millwright, were employed at Andrew Brown's flour & woollen mill at Cooerwull & later at the 'Darling Mills' Windsor Rd Parramatta. Further information sought. 6/18 John WHYTE/WHITE bc1834 Ireland married 1861 Parramatta Eliza HOBLEY bc1840 Cornwall d/o Joseph & Alice (nee FOISTER). They moved to Wallerawang c1874 where John was a bootmaker. Did he die in 1881? Eliza later married Mason GILBERT, editor of the Lithgow Mercury until 1886 when they moved to Hawaii with Eliza's youngest children.

7/18 Patrick & John HIGGINS were born in Ahamlish Co Sligo in 1821 & c1829 & came to Australia in 1852. Patrick married Rose LYNCH in 1855 & John married her sister Theresa in 1863. Both sisters died, Rose in 1857 leaving a son, John Patrick and Theresa in 1865 leaving a daughter Kate who died aged 5. Patrick had the contract to build the western railway in NSW from Clarence to Wallerawang from 1866 to 1869, including the famous Zig Zag section. In 1873 he & his son started an overseas journey & between Sydney & Melbourne his 15 year old son was lost overboard. Patrick became an MLC in 1880 & died in 1882. 8/18 Searching for the family of Jean REICH (reg. as Jane in 1877 in Levens) who came to Australia before 1906 when her son William Motion CRAWFORD was born in Sydney. She is the daughter of Robert REICH (originally RIACH, b1844 New Deer Aberdeen) & Jane THOMSON (b1853 Methlick Aberdeen) who married in 1873 in Aberdeen & had their first child, Elizabeth. They moved to a farm near Levens, Westmorland, England where more children were born & later moved to the Kirkham district of Lancashire. 9/18 Researching John DUNN bc1825 d1909 Bowenfels. Sarah Lindsay COLQUHOUN bc1829 d 1911 Bowenfels. John & Sarah arrived Sydney on 'Ben Nevis' in 1856 and married in Sydney in 1857. Dunns Corner in Lithgow was named after them. Associated names: ANGEL BUNYAN CORNELL HAMMENT TOWLE.

11/18 Researching William GRAY, born 1830 Cumberland & his first wife Elizabeth JONES born c1831 Cornwall arrived in Sydney in 1857 with Jonathan 4 & Elizabeth 2. Anna's birth was registered in 1861 at Picton & Sarah's in 1863 at Penrith. William Henry was born at Wombat Bush near Sutton Forest in 1866. William then ran the Navvies Arms Inn near Locksley & in 1872 moved the licence from that inn to his new building near the platform of Macquarie Plains Station (later Brewongle). In 1873 he moved the licence to his new Royal Hotel in Lithgow where he built a number of other buildings. 16/18 Seeking the name of Charles FULLOON's wife Mary. They married in 1854 & the entry in the Bowenfels Presbyterian register has Mary's surname as MCGARIE. A baptism entry for their daughter Sarah in the Hartley Catholic register has MCGARRY. Birth & death registrations for their Qld born children record her name as MAGUIRE, COLLINS, MCGUIRE, MAQUIRE, MUGERIA & MCGEARY. Mary was born in Co Wexford c1838 & came to NSW c1848 & died at Hermitage (the State Farm originally part of Canning Downs Station?) near Redbank Station, Gayndah in 1888.

17/18 James LEVINGSTON bc1829 or c1836 in Co Antrim enlisted in the British Army & served in the Crimean War in the 77th Regiment. He married Mary known as Madge GALLAGHER in 1863 at Kings Creek west of Oberon. Their children: Michael c1861, Mary Jane 1862, Henry 1864, Susan c1866, James 1868, John 1870, Margaret 1872, Sarah 1874, Helena 1876, Hugh 1879, Madge 1882. Mary GALLAGHER was born c1840 in Co Donegal, daughter of Hugh & Susan & arrived in Sydney on 'Sapphire' in 1859. She died in Orange in 1913 & James died in Orange in 1902. Associated names: BONNER CHANDLER LIVINGSTONE LYNN REARDON SULLIVAN

18/18 Hector John ROBERTSON (b1886 son of Lachlan & Marian ROBERTSON nee MCLEAN) married Irene GUIHOT (b1893 dtr of Francis & Elizabeth GUIHOT nee SMITH) in 1915 in Lithgow. Interested in the gold medal presented in 1913 to Hector, known as Jack.

19/18 Researching William Charles DREWETT & his wife Ann Aldrich WOODS who arrived in Sydney in 1854 on 'Kate'. William, with his brother Henry, became a builder in Bathurst later moving to Lithgow where, among others, he built the Town Hall, the Commercial Bank & the Cosmopolitan Hotel, now the Exchange. Associated names: ARMSTRONG, DALE, FLACK, HEMMINGS, JAMIESON JEFFRIESS, LILL, SIMS.

5/17 Information sought as to the whereabouts of Henry Porter's chemist shop, thought to be on the eastern corner of Cook & Main Sts Lithgow from c1874. Henry married Abbey Laura JONES in 1883.


6/17 Charles S & Sarah Atkinson EVANS nee ROBSON formerly TREZISE had a daughter Sarah born 31 Dec 1897 & registered in 1898 in Orange. Later called Sarah Madeline EVANS she married Rupert Devitt OLLIFFE in Lithgow in 1915 & divorced in 1923. They had a daughter Gladys Lesly Olliffe who married Mervyn Myall FINCH. What happened to Sarah Madeline?

7/17 Searching for the death of William HAMILTON bc1816 in Co Tyrone, marr Margaret SCOTT in 1845 & had chn: Ann b1847 d1851, Wilhelmina 1849, Morgianna 1851 (all born Bathurst district probably Meadow Flat where they had 30 acres), Harriet 1855, Frances 1856 & Sabina (all born Tyrone Ireland). There may have been another child born c1861 in NZ. William's brother John marr Margaret's sister Jane SCOTT & also lived at Meadow Flat. Margaret died in 1912 at Bondi & William probably died between 1868 & 1872 but where & when?

James was born on 29 Nov 1885 at Zig Zag & his mother was Ada Margaret O'CONNELL who had married John James MCCARTHY, a rail porter, on 7 Jun 1879 at the Wesleyan Parsonage in Bathurst and had a son with him in 1882, born at Eskbank & called John William Robinson MCARTHUR. John ROBINSON also stated on James' BC that he & Ada were married on 7 Jun 1879. Ada's 3rd son, Francis Hilary ROBINSON, was born on 25 Oct 1887 at Parramatta & according to family members his father was John ROBINSON. Who was he?

Thomas, a Sergeant Major in the Militia died on 7 Jan 1867 & Mary & the children arrived in Victoria on 11 July 1867 on 'Western Empire'. 11/17 Kathlyn ALLEN b c1890 in ?Birmingham England or ?South Africa the daughter of Arthur ALLEN & Jeannette DE VILLIER. Arthur, a contractor, was deceased by 1920 when Kathlyn marr Bernard Wilfred REGAN son of John REGAN & Bridget HART of Cullen Bullen. In 1935 Kathlyn, a double-certificated nurse, ran 'Boorong' private hospital at Lidsdale after which she was appointed Matron at the Daphne Bowman Hospital at Cassilis, followed by service at Baradine and Coonabarabran.

14/17 Mary or Harriet TIERNEY, born 1864 Bathurst daughter of Michael TIERNEY & Eliza JOHNSON married Samuel THOMPSON, son of Samuel THOMPSON & Janet HUNTER or SINCLAIR, born c1849 Govan Wigtonshire Scotland, at the School Church, Vale of Clwydd on 28 Jan 1882. Their children: Samuel 1882, Eliza 1884, Peter 1886, Alexander 1888, George 1891, Jessie 1893, Ethel 1895, Frank 1896. Samuel snr died in 1921 & Harriet in 1943, both at Granville where they had lived since about 1884.

15/17 Thomas STURGESS (1873-1945 son of George STURGESS & Hannah DONOGHOE) married Harriet Annie DICKINSON (1894-1966 daughter of James DICKINSON & Emma Jane ROE)  in 1912 at Wagga Wagga. Associated names: CASTLAKE, FERRY, MERRETT, PURCELL, REYNOLDS, RILEY,  SHARP, WALSH

16/17 Michael HENNESSY married Bridget DINEEN in 1868 in Sydney. Their son Aeneas P was born that year & Bridget died as a result. Aeneas died in May 1869. Michael married Ellen BLAKE in 1870 in Sydney & settled in Rydal. They had 9 children and Michael took up land at Cheethams Flat in the 1870s where some of their children went to school and later at Rydal. Michael & Ellen moved to Bathurst & later died & are buried there. The inquirer wanted to know where in Hartley the family initially lived but it appears from the records that they lived at Rydal & Cheethams Flat & the confusion arose because the place of registration of births & deaths was Hartley. Associated names: CHAPMAN, COUGHLAN, DELANEY, DOGGETT, MARTIN, PERRIN.

Also looking for further information about Michael LOCK & his wife Mary Ann SIMMS or TIMMS. Their son Edward married Mary KEARNEY & settled in what was Dirty Swamp and now Locksley.

18/17 Thomas DUFFY, convict, was assigned to William LAWSON snr in 1822 and later was thought to be an overseer for William's son Nelson LAWSON. What was the name of the property? Thomas married Bridget WARD & their children born in the Mudgee district.


19/17 George & Maria BAKER nee BLUNT arrived in 1863 on 'Lobelia' with 6 children. George died at Sodwalls in 1868 & Maria died in Rydal in 1912. Further information sought about Maria's parents who were possibly William & Jane BLUNT.
